Brian Copeland In Not A Genuine Black Man

February 20 @ 2:00 PM PST

Brian Copeland In Not A Genuine Black Man

This brilliant one-man show will have you laughing and crying. Don’t miss it!

In the late 1960s, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights investigated housing discrimination in San Leandro, and a Newsweek story quoted explicit racist comments from San Leandro residents.  In  1971, Copeland (then 8-years-old) and his family moved to San Leandro.

Told with terrific wit, yet searing honesty, Not a Genuine Black Man confronts what it meant to grow up an outsider in a lily-white suburb, and how Copeland claimed his identity in the place he now calls home. First performed at the Marsh Theatre in San Francisco, it caught fire, becoming the longest-running solo show in San Francisco history, and has since been performed in New York, Los Angeles, and other venues.
