Friends: An Invitational Exhibition is a special exhibition running Sept. 2–28 by Northern California watercolorist Robert Benson, whose luminous paintings celebrate familiar landscapes, vintage architecture and everyday subjects with warmth, craftsmanship and an unmistakable sense of place. Julia Pozsgai is the featured artist for September and was voted winner of the 2026 People’s Choice Award.

For this special annual exhibition, Guild members each invite a fellow artist whose work they believe deserves a wider audience, transforming the historic gallery into a rich tapestry of artistic voices. Painters, photographers, jewelers, ceramic artists, sculptors, printmakers and mixed-media artists come together to present an extraordinary range of original artwork created throughout Sonoma Valley and neighboring communities.

The public is invited to meet the artists during the opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 3, held in conjunction with Sonoma Art Walk. Admission is free. Located at 140 East Napa Street, just steps from Sonoma Plaza, the Arts Guild of Sonoma is one of California’s longest-running artists’ cooperatives. The nonprofit gallery features original paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, woodworking and mixed-media art created by local and regional artists.
