Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Ladysmith Black Mambazo carries the sound of South African isicathamiya into a new generation. Founded by Joseph Shabalala in 1960, the group transformed the close, softly stepping vocal tradition developed by Black mine workers into a worldwide message of peace, hope and cultural pride.
The ensemble’s layered harmonies became internationally known through Paul Simon’s Graceland, but its deeper story is rooted in decades of singing through apartheid and beyond. Now led by members of the Shabalala family, the group continues Joseph’s vision with voices that can feel both gentle and immense. The performance is a living link among family, history and the enduring power of people singing together.
